January 6: Another quiet day

Red-breasted Nuthatch
Red-breasted Nuthatch
Today was a quiet day at home. I saw 2 goldfinches--new for my yard this year, but not for the year as a whole. And one Red-breasted Nuthatch came to my hand for mealworms FIVE times! They are far more skittish than the most skittery chickadees, so I'm very excited that this one came in so often. I couldn't get the White-breasted Nuthatches to come in, though. I guess the one that came in once in December was a fluke.

Zero new species, leaving me at 41.

  1. Hand-feeding mealworms sound exciting! Something I'll have to try! The red-breasted nuthatches are such sweet lil' birds. Love your picture.
